Another school visit

posted 5 February 2009, Thursday

today was interesting. i went to my college to pick up my transcript of records then decided to roam around the campus like im a student again, haha. i kinda miss the college days. i was a bit surprised that i saw a pond at the back of one of the buildings i used to go to, like wut, what's a pond doing here?? and it's yucky green! many construction sites are in school these days that it overwhelms me so much. i kinda miss a part of the greenery that the construction people had to remove to make way for these new buildings but i guess that's progress for them. oh, and some of the students still wear slippers, flip flops, whatever you call them, to class and i was a bit amused because didn't the school enforce a dress code a year ago or something?

so i was walking around and saw this flyer on a bulletin board that says there is a small exhibit of some sort at one of the old buildings and it was about studying abroad and stuff, things most students don't give a fuck about because they're currently enrolled, and i thought, why not? i met a couple of people from new zealand and they talked to me about my options if ever i wanted to take post graduate studies. a lady asked me about my portfolio and in my head, i was like, oh shit they have to see the things i do on youtube?! but yeah, that's the idea. they wanted a body of work from me so they can gauge my range, see if i have potential and if i understood what the hell they might teach me if i become their student. one of the new zealand dudes showed me his laptop, it's a fuckin mac which im not that familiar with, and he made a demonstration about this program called lightwave 3d editor. holy shit, animation stuff! i was intimidated with the idea of 3d animation because animation is still about drawings and sketches and not doodles but he told me that i dont necessarily need to be a good artist to make 3d animation. (but of course it will definitely help!) yeah, i think i can draw, i know i still can, but im not that good with animation since im not so good with photo editing yet (im getting there). so yeah, going back, he showed me what he can do with lightwave and it was just all lines and points and a lot of dragging and clicking! i enjoyed the demo because i didnt really think it was... quite easy. you'll need lots of patience of course if you want to make an animated film with it, but still, the possibilities are now endless! just like what he said, it's you who control the drawing. i didnt regret going there to sit and see how it goes, even if i had a tad of a difficult time with his accent (i do understand him, but he sounds british and there are some words he said that are tricky to figure out but i just tried to get what he mean through context and nodded every now and then). speaking of accent and language stuff, i did ask the other new zealander about english proficiency and he said it's not compulsory to take ielts but they're definitely going to check if you can converse in english and understand since the lectures will have jargons and other unimaginable words that actually might exist. i had to leave to pick up my transcript, of course but i took some pamphlets so i can just read them. lol no, it's not definite that im going to new zealand!

i went to the registrar to get my transcript. oh and somebody tapped my shoulder and called my name then and i turned and saw my friend! heee. that was cool. i really wonder when is the next time i'll be able to see her because my schedule changed again, for chrissake. after that, i went to the alumni office for membership registration especially since i just want to have an id i can present whenever i go back to school. thank you, thief, for stealing my bag. welcome to the ateneo, asshole.

by the way, i saw these memos on the bulletin board at the administration area and i was like, omg dudes and dudettes, why dont you follow the rules??! violations like not wearing an id to school are reprimanded with a letter posted publicly! that bulletin board was like a wall of shame, damn. i felt awful for those charged with cheating, like seriously? i mean, i wont come clean and say i have not cheated in my whole life, but that's like grade school shenanigans, you know. just damn. grow up. we dont need more dishonest people in this country.

well this has been fun. i brought my work home and have to get it done soon, but haha im on the internetz! later.

update: here is the website of that school in new zealand. it looks very colorful and modern! http://www.natcoll.ac.nz

wow... wall of shame? that's interesting. i don't think we have that in UP. but its a good move for your school to impose discipline. as for the flip flops, im just glad we never had a dress code for anything. Some teachers can be strict with their own classes but generally, you can go to school without ID, without shoes too if you will. I dunno about underwear though. Hahahaha...

hehehehe ateneo hates dishonesty. sumingit ka lang, maraming magagalit sayo. dress code, wala namang masyadong restrictions nung panahon ko but i guess some people abused that freedom kaya nag-impose ng dress code. ewan ko lang talaga ngayon bakit may nakatsinelas na uli.
