Kim Jung Hwa update: 01/07/08

posted 7 January 2008, Monday

I don't know what the heck is going on, but I'm pretty sure this appearance Jung Hwa made as a reporter is for the drama called "Before and After: Plastic Surgery Clinic" which is about, uhm, plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is very rampant in Korea. Koreans have a thing for ssanggapeul or double eyelids. I think getting this kind of minor operation makes the eyes wider/bigger as most Koreans I've seen (that did not go under cosmetic surgery) have small eyes, and they're kind of drooping or something. I even think Kim Jung Hwa went under the knife as well but I can't pinpoint which facial feature she got altered. "Thank you, Doc!"

Here's the photo:

Some promo photos for the show. Jung Hwa is not in these photos, perhaps because she is not in the main cast of this drama. /edit: I think I get it. In the drama, there was a TV show aired and Jung Hwa is the host of the show and the topic was plastic surgery.

A Korean news source that I don't even understand what the buck it's talking about: http://www.newsen.com/news_view.php?uid=200801071008281001. The pics here are much bigger. I sense a Nip/Tuck vibe here because there are 2 doctors for this drama.

Also someone from Japan named Koss blogged about meeting Kim Jung Hwa.

http://blog.koss.jp/category_Kim_Jung_Hwa/1/article_510.html - Meeting her for the musical "From The Bottom"

Koss wrote:

After finishing the musical, all cast stayed on the stage.
And they signed pamphlets or CD of musical for each fan.
When I reached to Jung-Hwa's place, She asked me my name for signing.
I speak Korean a little, but not good :-P. So she understood I was not Korean.
And she asked me in Japanese again. She understands Japanese a little.
Her Japanese is better than my Korean. And she also understands English well.
We communicated in tree languages mixed.
I think she can speak Chinese a little, because she tried to play in Chinese movie before.

http://blog.koss.jp/category_Kim_Jung_Hwa/1/article_616.html - Meeting her for the musical "Audition"

Koss wrote that "she remembered me and told with us so friendly after play." Awesome. Kim Jung Hwa seems really nice, don't you think so?

Trivia: People in Japan call her "Chon-chan!"

Thanks to Peercat for the heads up!

WAIT!!

While I was gone from cyberspace, she was actually nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the 2007 SBS Awards. She was nominated for her role in War of Money. However, she did not win. Drat.

Here's the official website of the 2007 SBS Awards: http://tv.sbs.co.kr/2007talent/, and here is a Korean news source about the results of the awards: http://news.msn.co.kr/article/read.html?cate_code=5100&article_id=200712312238525100, just in case.

I'm so sorry about the messy layout of this entry. It's just that I was out of the loop lately and I just wanted to cover what I have missed. Until then!

1. Kerren left...
19 March 2008, Wednesday 5:45 am

Hi,

My name is Kerren McKeeman, I am a Junior Editor for Cool Hunt, an editorial press agency based in Los Angeles. I'm currently doing a project on Korean girls' beauty culture, more specifically, on the intentions and opinions behind cosmetic surgery and image-altering investments. The article will be published in China's branch of SELF Magazine.

You all have some pretty interesting perspectives-- do you know anyone in Korea who would offer their side of the story? I would like to include several interviews in the article.

Anyone who would be willing to answer a few questions would be great. Please contact me at editorcoolhunt@gmail.com as soon as possible. This should be a great opportunity to give Chinese readers some insight on the Korean craze for good looks!

Thank you, I truly appreciate it!

Kerren McKeeman, Cool Hunt Junior Editor
