so i had a late night movie viewing (as usual) and it didn't go well.
monster village - REALLY? NO, REALLY? i had no idea it was going to be a bad ogre movie, or simply an ogre movie, of all creatures, or that the film was called OGRE. what the fuck ever, it makes shrek look like a care bear. i had a slight interest to watch this movie because during the title sequence, i saw katharine isabelle's name, and i recall that she was in ginger snaps, that lycanthrope movie which i enjoyed very much so. so you know, maybe by actor association, this movie might be surprisingly good, but damn i just lost interest when the ogre appeared in the early part of the movie. and really, who in the right mind would want to open a damp and rotting door of some shelter built close to the ground in the middle of the forest you have not set foot on before? to be curious for the sake of academics and discovery is one thing, but to be curious because you are an idiot with no sense of self-preservation, that's your problem right there.
13 hours in a warehouse - i couldn't bear to watch the whole thing primarily because the opening credits is just blah. REALLY? white text on black background all throughout? are we still in high school media ed or something? i might give it a try next time, if i feel more tolerant of plain opening credits.
the hive - my god. it's just bad. i didn't make it through the opening sequence. and the hive, you'd think it's about bees. it's not! it's about ants. shouldn't it be called "the swarm" instead?? eh??
tokyo gore police - i've seen this before but it never fails to gross me out. it's just a fun gory film that you shouldn't take seriously. i can never fully comprehend japanese comedy at all, but i kind of dig it. i found myself laughing when i saw these girls in high school uniforms just squealing "KAWAII!!!" while showing their cut wrists to advertise these razors specifically designed for self-mutilation. or this family playing this wii sort of computer game in the living room, each member taking turns to virtually slice a human into pieces with a computer sword. twisted, morbid, bloody and gross. take a hint with this photo: NOT SAFE FOR LIFE.
